This Easy White Hot Chocolate is made with just 3 simple ingredients and takes only 5 quick minutes to make. It’s the perfect sweet, smooth, creamy, vanilla-y, decadent drink to warm you up!
Welcome to winter and hot chocolate season! At this time of the year, classic hot chocolate or hot cocoa is everywhere, but have you ever tried white hot chocolate? It’s so incredibly delicious, and you definitely should!
And this comes from a girl who doesn’t even really like white chocolate (there was nothing worse than when my Easter basket had the dreaded white bunny).
BUT, but, but…let me just tell you that there’s something magical that happens when it’s warmed up and melted with milk and vanilla and topped with whipped cream or marshmallows (or both).
It becomes this rich, creamy, and indulgent drink that makes me all warm and cozy and happy from my head to my toes. I’m actually kind of obsessed with it right at the moment!
We’ve been spending quite a lot of time outside playing in the snow after last week’s big snowstorm, and so we’ve also been drinking a lot of hot chocolate.
My all-time favorite go-to hot chocolate recipe is my Chocolate Chip Hot Chocolate (it’s so easy and yummy!). Not that I could ever really get sick of it, but after drinking several mugs this past week, I was feeling like I wanted to change things up a bit.
So I took a chance and made the recipe with white chocolate chips instead. And, boy, I’m SO glad I did. This stuff totally rocks!!!
Fun Fact: White chocolate isn’t actually chocolate. Cocoa solids are needed to make true chocolate, and they are what gives chocolate it’s brown color and chocolaty flavor. White chocolate does not contain cocoa solids and, therefore, is not really chocolate!
Ingredients you need:
- Milk (I use whole milk)
- White chocolate chips
- Vanilla extract
- Whipped cream, marshmallows, or other toppings of your choice (optional)
Here’s a look at how to make Easy White Hot Chocolate:
Tips & Tidbits:
- I use and recommend whole milk because it results in a creamier hot chocolate, but you can use whatever milk you prefer.
- Use good quality white chocolate chips that you enjoy the flavor of. Yummy chocolate chips = yummy hot chocolate.
- Use medium-low to low heat, and don’t let the mixture come to a simmer or boil because the milk can develop an unpleasant skin on the top.
- This recipe is just for one serving, but it is easily scaled up for however many servings as you need. Just use a bigger pot (it may take a little more time for larger batches).
- Always add toppings right before serving for the prettiest presentation. Whipped cream and/or marshmallows are my favorite!
For Christmas, I like to make it festive and top my white hot chocolate with whipped cream and some red and green sprinkles. So pretty and sure to be loved by both the kids and grown-ups alike!
By the way, this is my 200th recipe post! Thank you so much to each and every one of you! It warms my heart and makes me so happy that you all are out there cooking, enjoying, and sharing my recipes. There’s lots more to come!
