Homemade French Bread Pizza is a quick, easy, and fun way to do pizza night. It’s ready in under 30 minutes and is sure to become a family favorite!
When you want to make some homemade pizza but don’t want to mess with pizza dough, French bread pizza is the way to go! The bread makes an awesomely crisp, thick crust, and everyone can add their own favorite toppings. It’s a winner every time!
When I was a kid, we walked to and from the school bus stop every day. My grandparents lived nearby, so every now and then, my best friend and I would pop in and visit my gram on the way home, and she always made us an after-school snack.
Our favorite? The frozen French bread pizza! It was so yummy and such a special treat for us. It lured us back many times. To this day, every time I eat a French bread pizza, it takes me back to those afternoons at Gram’s house!
In our house, Friday night is pizza night. Sometimes we get takeout from our favorite pizza place, but most often, we like to make our own – whether it’s just basic pizza, pan pizza, tortilla pizza, or this quick and easy French bread pizza.
Whether it’s pizza night or any other night when time is tight and you need to get something on the table in a hurry that everyone will love, French bread pizza is the perfect choice. You can be enjoying this delicious pizza in less than 30 minutes!
I love that you can top each piece a different way if you want to so that everyone can have their pizza exactly how they want it!
For these pizzas, I kept some super simple by topping them with some of my No-Cook Homemade Pizza Sauce and mozzarella cheese, and I made my favorite supreme pizza version with the others by adding cooked Italian sausage, pepperoni, peppers, onions, and mushrooms! YUMMMM!!
INGREDIENTS YOU NEED:
- French bread
- Olive oil
- Pizza sauce (try my No-Cook Homemade Pizza Sauce)
- Mozzarella cheese
- Your favorite pizza toppings
HERE’S HOW TO MAKE IT:
Tips & Tidbits:
- Your French bread should be the kind that is soft rather than a really crusty, chewy loaf. The bread is going to crisp up a lot in the oven.
- Brushing the bread with a little olive oil and pre-baking it for a few minutes before topping helps prevent sogginess and makes for an extra-crispy crust. If you’d like a softer crust, you can skip this step.
- Another tip for a crisp and not-soggy pizza is to not add too much sauce and toppings.
- Line the baking sheet with foil for super easy clean-up.
- The amount of sauce and cheese I use is how I like my pizza and are just suggested amounts. Feel free to add more or less depending on how you like your pizza.
- I recommend letting the pizza cool for about 5 minutes before digging in. It is super hot right out of the oven, and nothing ruins enjoying your pizza like burning your mouth with too-hot cheese and sauce.
- I cut my bread into 4 pieces and usually serve one piece per person if it’s just us grown-ups. If I’m feeding the kiddos too, I usually cut each piece in half.
Throw together a quick salad or serve with some cut up veggies and dip, and you’ve got yourself one fine dinner, lunch, or after-school snack!
